Dear Leah Eichler,
I read the
article “Domestic Violence: Rape Hurts Our Economy Too” and it was very
interesting to me. It informed me more about how Domestic Violence can affect
people, not only in their everyday life, but in their work. People should be
aware of all the affects of Domestic Violence, not just the ones they feel are
most important.
The article
talks about people that were affected by Domestic Violence, have taken off from
work for weeks at a time. Domestic Violence does have an effect on your life
and work.
-
“According
to The American Institute
on Domestic Violence, U.S. victims lose nearly eight million days of paid
work each year, the equivalent of more than 32,000 full-time jobs. In the UK,
53 per cent of female victims of domestic abuse miss work at least three days a
month and 75 percent are targeted at work.”
People feel as though the victims
need time off of work for weeks at a time missing hours of work. But to me, if
you really felt like you needed counseling or time off you could take a half
day for one week or use your free days to go see a counselor. There’s no reason
that you should stop your entire life because someone else tried to ruin it.
